They always say write about your experiences and, boy, am I feeling this pregnancy back pain. Apparently, I threw out my back. Obviously, there's more to it than that since I'm almost 39 weeks pregnant and the baby is always sitting on my right side.About a month ago, my back started hurting but it wasn't until a week ago that I had shooting pain on my right side, going vertically from my shoulder blade to my lower back. I can't sit, stand, or lay down in a position that relieves the pain. Apparently there are women out there that have upper back pain that is actually a sign of early labor. But mine is more muscular. So ladies that are pregnant, especially those of you who already have kids, be careful! Don't lift anything. Try to hold your other kids on the couch instead of while standing. Even though the list of things to do around the house is as long as ever, take it easy. I haven't slept in days...literally. And no one functions well on little sleep. Here are a few things that have helped that I wanted to share with you expecting mamas with back pain or if you're having a rough time adjusting to your third trimester! It's a long list but I'm writing it all down because some things may work for you and others may not. So, try them all and maybe you'll get some relief. :)

  • Hot bath/shower - add some lavender and peppermint oils to your bath for relaxation and make sure you are propped up in the bath at a comfortable angle.
  • Tylenol PM before bed - Tylenol honestly does nothing for me, but I take one at night if I can't sleep or if my back pain is literally bringing me to tears.
  • Lots of water throughout the day
  • Yoga poses throughout the day
  • Icy hot rubbed really hard on the exact point of pain. Follow with a nice massage of the rest of your back.
  • Foot massages from your spouse - this helps to relax me so much.
  • Belly support, belly bands, belly wraps...anything to help relieve the weight of baby!
  • Essential oils - Ask anyone who uses them frequently what the best ones are to rub on the tender part of your back. I've heard of a few so just ask someone knowledgeable :)
  • Pillow between legs while sleeping - I went without a pillow between my legs for a little bit because it was feeling uncomfortable. Now I'm back to using it.
  • Heating pad - 15 minutes intervals
  • Laying flat on your side, head not even propped up (take 2 TUMS before going to bed if needed for heartburn) and turn that sound machine on!
  • Use your legs if you have to pick something (some little one) up. Be aware of your movements. Even a simple task like unloading the dishwasher can tweak your back and have you in pain for days. So just be aware of what you're doing and don't think you can "do it all" .... that got me in trouble :(

I hope this helps some of you who are experiencing back pain. Worst case scenario, call your doctor and maybe get a pregnancy chiropractor appointment or psychical therapy.xoxoNicole
