Worry-Free Summer
As you know, this summer has been extremely difficult for our family. It was not in any way what we had envisioned and I'm still a little bummed about it. Our summer was supposed to be filled with family adventures, a weekend beach trip, exploring our new city, and taking our time getting settled in to our new home.
Cancer changed everything.
We drew close as a family and savored the times we had together. Right before surgery, we went to a couple of museums. Two weeks after surgery, we really enjoyed going to a splash park together. However, the kids always enjoy being home as a family the most. I think it's because we've had visitors helping us since the week we moved in. It has been such a blessing having help, but it's so nice to have days with JUST our family of five. Family time is so important to me especially since I haven't seen the boys a lot recently AND preschool is right around the corner! :(
Our favorite thing to do together this summer has been enjoying the pool, turning on the sprinklers, and making up a bunch of water games, especially if it involves water balloons. The boys LOVE this! Sometimes they get up at 6:30am asking if they can go outside in the pool! Usually I push it back to 8:30am because that's way too early for me. We also have a swamp that borders our backyard and the kids love throwing rocks into it, but I think the pool wins hands-down.
Unfortunately, with the swamp, hot temperatures, and southern humidity (that we are NOT used too), you can only imagine the mosquitos! We had some mosquitos in Colorado but this is totally different. They are so much bigger and there are so many more in North Carolina!
